Early Morning Police Shooting

 (West Jordan, UT)- Early this morning a shooting occurred at the Barbary Coast Saloon in Milcreek. A bulletin was sent out by the Unified Police Department with a description of the suspect vehicle in that case. At approximately 0058 hours a West Jordan police officer was driving home after his shift and spotted the suspect vehicle. The officer called for backing units and followed the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle turned onto a residential street (Dutch Draw) in Taylorsville and stopped in a driveway at approximately 2400 West. The suspect exited his vehicle and headed toward a residence in the area. The officer followed the suspect and an altercation occurred. During the altercation, the suspect was shot by the officer. The suspect was transported to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition. The officer was not injured. The incident has been turned over to an officer involved critical incident team for the investigation. The involved officer has been put on paid administrative leave, per our policy, pending outcome of the investigation.
