Capoeira Utah Primeiro Batizado

Capoeira Utah: Martial arts to a Brazilian Beat

Capoeira Utah will be hosting their first Batizado event! Live demonstrations of capoeira with energizing music will be displayed along with special guests Mestrando Furacao and Mestrando Mago. Watch the deadly and thrilling game of Brazilian Capoeira unfold live! Capoeira (pronounced cah-poh-WAY-dah) is technically a martial art, but vastly different than mainstream art forms like tae kwon do or karate. African slaves imported to Brazil during the slave trade developed an ingenious method of disguising the traditional African martial arts by combining their practice with dance-like and daring acrobatic movements all set to live music. It has been practiced in Brazil for centuries, being called by President Getúlio Vargas in 1953 the country’s “only truly national sport.” Now this hundreds of years old Brazilian art form is strengthening students and communities worlds away in Utah in one of the United States’ fastest growing capoeira schools. Furacao & Mago will be providing workshops for registered students and will appear in free demonstrations of the art form for the public on Saturday, February 20th from 11:00am-1:00 p.m. All events take place at The South Jordan Community Center at10778 S. Redwood Rd. South Jordan, UT 84095. For more information, please visit www.capoeirautah.com or call (801)302-1363.
