Family physicians Dr. Maria Oneida and Dr. Joseph Kasper truly put family first and center their practice on total family care. Originally, Maria opened the doors to this practice 26 years ago at the West Jordan Medical Center, located on the campus of Jordan Valley Hospital at 3570 West 9000 South Suite 200. Over the decades she's built a reputation in the community for providing specialty care ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics.

"When I started, there wasn't a family physician west of State Street," Maria says, "I wanted to come back to the area I grew up in and provide medical service to them."

Maria particularly enjoys providing obstetric and pediatric care for both mother and baby. Maria says most family physicians do not provide obstetric care but it's something that sets her practice apart from other family practices.

"I couldn't decide between pediatrics and obstetrics and having a family practice allowed me to do all of them," she says.

Maria's practice also includes Physician Assistants Bruce Burnham, Melissa Lonnecker and Kelly Mikesell.

Joseph is the newest addition and joined the team last fall as a board certified family physician. He's practiced for 12 years and has built up a loyal following. He's also had the opportunity of being the team physician for both the Utah Grizzlies hockey team and the Utah Wolverines football team.

His experience and philosophy in providing high-quality patient care complements Maria's practice and makes the duo a great team.

"We focus on practicing family medicine the way it used to be where patients don't feel like just another number," says assistant Suzie Kasper, Joseph's wife.

One example of how they make patients feel they're a priority, Suzie says, is that both Maria and Joseph make it a practice to follow up with all their patients after an appointment.

"Patients become our family because we care that much," Suzie says. "That's why when a patient comes in, we also see their kids and later on their grandchildren as well."

In fact, Maria is now delivering babies of the children she delivered more than 20 years ago.

The clinic is set up to handle acute care. The team can treat sprains, breaks and lacerations, often saving patients a trip to the emergency room. Maria says patients appreciate the onsite x-ray facility so they don't have to bounce around from place to place.

The onsite laboratory also allows for a quick turnover time for patients to receive their test results. Should patients need to be referred to a specialist, a staff member is always assigned to a patient to ensure the transition is smooth so nobody falls through the cracks.

The practice always accepts walk-ins and is currently accepting new patients. Most insurance plans are accepted. To schedule an appointment, call 801-566-9211.
