Auditions for 'The Foreigner' set for January

518 days ago200 views

West Jordan Theater Arts and the Sugar Factory Playhouse will be holding auditions for the Larry Shue comedy, "The Foreigner," on Jan. 4 and 5. Auditions will be held at West Jordan City Hall, 8000 South Redwood Road, from 6:30-9 p.m.

The scene is a fishing lodge in rural Georgia often visited by "Froggy" LeSeuer, a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base. This time "Froggy" has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy young man named Charlie who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. So "Froggy," before departing, tells all assembled that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English. Once alone the fun really begins, as Charlie overhears more than he should—the evil plans of a sinister, two-faced minister and his redneck associate made with the thought that Charlie doesn't understand a word being said. That he does fuels the nonstop hilarity of the play and sets up the wildly funny climax.

The cast requires five men (ages 16 - 40s) and two women (age 20s and 40-60). Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script and may optionally come prepared with a short comedic monologue or reading. Headshots and resumes are welcome but not required.

The show will be directed by Michelle Groves and will play in March 2011. For more information and individual character descriptions, visit www.sugarfactoryplayhouse.com.
