August concerts continue at Sandy Amphitheater

The music and fun continues in August at the Sandy Amphitheater, with concerts and more scheduled. Here’s the month’s lineup:

· Billy Dean, Aug. 3- Solo Tour. With over 12 albums and 11 Top 10 hits, Billy Dean’s insightful songwriting, clear and distinctive voice and masterful instrumental gifts have earned him numerous awards and countless music fans. He has also appeared in several television shows and made for TV movies, making him fans beyond country music. More at www.billydean.com.

· Illusionicity, Magic and Illusion in Concert, Aug. 5- Michelangelo has captivated audiences throughout the United States, including Las Vegas and six foreign countries with his magic show. His stage designs and performances have won multiple awards, including the 2010 Arty Award from City Weekly Magazine.

Sandy Arts Guild Musical

“Hairspray,” the Broadway musical, Aug. 19-27--1960s Baltimore, change is in the air. Lovable plus-size Tracy Turnblad has a passion for dancing and wins a spot on her favorite TV dance program “The Corny Collins Show.” Can a larger-than-life adolescent manage to integrate the television show and find true love (all the while singing and dancing) without mussing her hair?

Leslie Warwood directs this Sandy Arts Guild production with Trevor Jerome music director and Stephanie Thomas choreographer. The main cast Includes, Carissa Kitgaard, Tracy Turnblad, Eric Richards, Edna Turnblad and Scott Maruri, Link Larkin. Not presented on Sunday, Aug. 21.

Story Road, Utah, Aug. 2- Pioneer demonstrations begin at 6:30 p.m. in the park behind the amphitheater with music and stories beginning at 8 p.m.

Join Utah Pioneer Heritage Arts in a live radio broadcast bringing together dramatizations, songs and interviews with contemporary artisans, farmers and others as they tell the stories of Sandy’s pioneer past. Listen as they talk with Mayor Tom Dolan about his vision for Sandy’s future. Your hosts are the father and son team of Marvin and Sam Payne, along with a live band. More at www.storyroadutah.org.

Nashville Tribute Band, Aug. 4. Led by award-winning songwriter and producer Jason Deere and Diamond Rio's keyboardist Dan Truman, the Nashville Tribute Band will debut its new CD The Work at this Sandy Amphitheater concert. Created as a tribute to the missionaries of the LDS Church, This new CD follows earlier releases of The Trek and Joseph, completing the band’s trilogy of LDS heritage music.

Ticket information at www.sandyarts.com/amph. The box office at the Amphitheater opens at 6 p.m. on the night of shows only and stays open until intermission.

The Sandy Amphitheater is located on the northwest corner of 9400 South and 1300 East with plenty of accessible parking. The gates open one-hour before performances.
