
Cross country season ends for local harriers
Copper Hills and West Jordan placed side by side in team scores at this year’s state 5A cross country championships, held Oct. 19 at Sugar House Park.
In the boys division, the Grizzlies were 9th with a team score of 296, just a bit better than West Jordan at 302. American Fork won the title with 25 points (low score wins in cross country). The Jaquars placed higher in the girls team race, finishing 11th with 307 points to 313 for 12th place Copper Hills. Davis won the team title with 44 points.
Individually, both schools had runners place in the top 20 in boys. Copper Hills junior Hunter Weintz was 17th at 16:14.5. West Jordan senior Zach Smith was 18th at 16:21.2.
Other Copper Hills runners among the team’s top five (scored runners) were senior Kade Singleton in 60th at 17:26.9, senior Jacob Baker in 68th at 17:43.4, senior Jaysen Natch in 88th at 18:11.7 and senior Mitch Crane in 93rd at 18:19.5.
For West Jordan, senior Michael Peters placed 70th at 17:45.5, senior Mitchell Booth was 79th at 17:56.2, sophomore Mitch Wade took 81st at 18:01.0 and sophomore Devin Clark was 86th at 18:09.0.
The top local finisher in girls was West Jordan senior Sara Fauver, who placed 37th at 20:42.6. Copper Hills sophomore Jessica Johnson led her team with a 47th place finish in 20:55.7.
Other scorers for West Jordan were senior Ali Walker, 54th at 21:09.8; junior Stephanie Larsen, 77th at 22:12.9; junior Megan Perkins, 81st at 22:26.2; and junior Sara Hills, 86th at 22:39.6. For Copper Hills, senior Bergen Haynes was 60th at 21:32.9, sophomore Heidi Farley 68th at 21:54.1, sophomore Cassidy Gummersall 78th at 22:14.0 and senior Alexis Chamberlain placed 91st at 22:48.4.
