‘Seussical’ takes over at West Jordan High School
Some of the most beloved children’s books come to life on stage in a fun and colorful way in West Jordan High School’s rendition of “Seussical the Musical.” It will play Nov. 17-19 and 21 at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.
“It is a more modern musical, and that’s one of the reasons I chose to do it this year,” director Miriam Rasmussen said. “There are also many leads, which showcases the talent of this year’s students.”
Seussical debuted on Broadway in 2000, highlighting some of Dr. Seuss’ most popular storybook characters like the Cat in the Hat, who is part narrator, part devil’s advocate in the show; Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie LaBird, Horton the elephant and a whole town of Whos from Whoville.
“This show was written as an ensemble show,” Rasmussen said. “The opening scene has the cast in the audience, interacting and making them part of the show. That first scene is very complex and nearly 20 minutes long.”
One of the most popular scenes is written around the popular song “All for You,” sung by Horton and Gertrude.
“It’s definitely one of the cast favorites because it’s so entertaining,” Rasmussen said. “We also can’t wait for the audience to see the closing number, which is spectacular.”
Seats are general admission; doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5/students and children, $8/adults and $6/seniors and can be purchased at the door or at the front office during school hours. WJHS is located at 8136 South 2700 West.
“It’s a great family-friendly show that has dialogue for adults and kids,” Rasmussen said. “It’s a great family night activity that will have you laughing.”
