Mountain West Ballet, Sandy’s community-based, non-profit ballet company, announces its annual performance of the holiday treasure, “The Nutcracker.” With dancers representing approximately 26 dance schools, colleges and universities throughout Utah, this community ballet will perform the tale of Clara and her handsome nutcracker prince come to life.

It will run Dec. 9-19 at the theatre at Mount Jordan (9360 South 300 East) in Sandy. Friday, Saturday and Monday evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday matinee performances begin at 2 p.m.

“Mountain West Ballet’s 27th annual production of the holiday classic ‘The Nutcracker’ is an expression of our community’s commitment to the arts and our youth,” said Sandy City Mayor Tom Dolan. “We hope to continue this holiday tradition for many years to come.”

“We believe this fresh adaptation of ‘The Nutcracker’ will enchant and entertain audience members of all ages,” said MWB artist director Jill Mueller. “This production offers young dancers a unique performing outlet.” Mueller, along with dance instructors throughout the Salt Lake Valley, encourages students to audition for and participate in Mountain West Ballet’s semi-annual productions as a means of enhancing their performance skills and sharing their talents.

Limited tickets are also available for Clara’s Candy Cane Caper immediately following each matinee performance. Attendees will meet Clara and her friends and enjoy a sweet treat, as well as photo opportunities. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.MountainWestBallet.org or call 801.572.6222.
