Copper Hills students take honors at DECA competition
It was the first competition of the season, and the Copper Hills DECA club came out on top. Senior Tyler Simmons, president of the CHHS chapter and western regional vice president for the Utah DECA, took first place in the retail merchandising category.
“Tyler is an exceptional young man,” DECA advisor Lynn Rowe said. “I was so pleased to see him get these honors.”
Simmons won a full-tuition scholarship to Snow College. Jon Lieberman, a first time competitor, took second place in the marketing management category.
Students compete by taking a written business test, then present a solution to a case study in front of a panel of judges.
DECA club members from six high schools participated in the competition held at Snow College in November.
Simmons, who received an ACT score of 33 and has a GPA of 3.91, was recently named his school’s Sterling Scholar in business and marketing.
