For pet owners, finding a kind and competent veterinarian to care for their animal family members is very important. The doctors and staff at A Gentle Vet are committed to providing the best care for their animal patients. In addition to all areas of animal care, A Gentle Vet specializes in treating ear infections, general surgeries and nutrition.

“Pets need care like people do, and we try to help them get better and back to being themselves,” receptionist Aubry Workman says.

The office has its own Biggest Loser competition for dogs and cats using Purina OM, a weight management food. Aubry says the pets that have been on the program have seen a lot of success and it’s become a client favorite. Drs Erin McGillic and Brent Hagloch help clients understand what their animals need for a proper diet.

Along with making changes to a pet’s diet for weight reasons, many owners don’t realize their pets might have food allergies. Small changes to an animal’s diet can make pets and owners happier. Seasonal allergies can also plague pets. Aubry says the office is equipped to help owners recognize the symptoms and get pets the relief they need.

The clinic’s general surgery options include spay/neutering and declawing. Twice a month, the clinic offers a discounted spay/neuter day called the Gentle Fix. Aubry says it’s the clinic’s way to provide a service to those on a limited income and to help keep animal populations down.

“It’s our chance to help our community and do our part to stop animal euthanasia,” she said. “It’s a nice service to offer.”

The Gentle Fix is held on the first and third Friday of the month. The cost for dog spay/neuter is $95 and for cats, the cost is $39 for spay and $29 for neuter. The normal average cost for spay/neuter can range from $150 to $350.

Ear infections for dogs are very common, especially in those with long hair or that spend a lot of time swimming. Dogs with an ear infection will scratch at their ears or shake their head. Aubry says if a dog is paying more attention to its ears, it might mean there is infection. The treatment for the animals is easy and is done in the office.

Aubry says the wet weather this year has meant an increase in worm cases. A Gentle Vet is able provide de-worming service in the office, and keep dangerous worms from being spread from animals to humans. Keeping dogs and cats healthy and safe is a high priority for the caring staff at A Gentle Vet.
