New police chief sworn in
A six-month police chief drought ended with the swearing in of Chief Douglas Diamond of Rancho Cordova, Calif. on Jan. 4.
City manager Rick Davis said Diamond was the third happiest man in the room that night. The first was probably Fire Chief Marc McElreath, who served as interim police chief, for being able to hand those powers and responsibilities over to Chief Diamond. And Davis said he was second.
“And mostly because I have every confidence that our city is going to go forward. It’s in good hands from a law enforcement perspective,” Davis said.
Diamond has come with a little knowledge of who we are and a wealth of experience in law enforcement, he said.
“Everybody should anticipate that this should be a very good year for us, and a good decade, because law enforcement is such an important aspect of quality of life,” Diamond said. “We can’t be the community that we want to be if we don’t have a very strong public safety presence.”
Diamond said it is an honor and privilege to be in West Jordan as a Chief of Police.
As he was interviewed, he in turn interviewed the city a little bit to make sure he was going to be a good fit, and the city was going to be a good fit for him.
He was grateful that those on the selection panel thought he would be a good fit for the city and is excited to be in West Jordan, to serve the city and be able to help things move forward.
“Right now I’m grateful to the men and women of the police department, for the opportunity that I have to work with them,” Diamond said. “They are a great bunch of people. I’m excited for the great support they’ve given me already in being here and just helping me out.”
And they’ve certainly kept him busy. They ran into some issues the day he started that they took care of, and then had a SWAT call only a few days later.
“So it’s been an exciting few days,” Diamond said.
