Fire Chief Marc McElreath was recognized Jan. 4 for his service to the city as the interim police chief, following the retirement of Ken McGuire last July.

New police chief Douglas Diamond of Rancho Cordova, Calif., was sworn in during the Jan. 4 meeting.

“For the last six months we’ve had the privilege of being led by Chief McElreath as our interim,” said Brent Jex, officer and vice president of the Utah Fraternal Order of Police. “He did an outstanding job. What he brought is truly appreciated. You’ve got a phenomenal leader, and it’s our honor to have spent the last six months with him.”

McElreath responded that it was starting to get little bit embarrassing to keep getting these kinds of recognitions that aren’t deserved.

There are a lot of other people that made the past six months work, including Jex and the others presenting the award, McElreath said.

“I’m just one person, but it’s all the police officers that had their world turned upside down with change;they went out every day and did their job. And for that I say thank you,” McElreath said.

He gave recognition to those in the fire department who continued to keep things going so that the fire department still delivered the best service they could.

“I’m sure I took much more out of it than I gave to you,” McElreath said. “But thanks for your patience and for not shooting me, because I was the only one in the building without a gun.”
