Ongoing Investigation into West Jordan House Fire

New information pertaining to West Jordan Police Department’s ongoing investigation into a local house fire has been uncovered. The house fire occurred at 8273 S. 6430 West in West Jordan.

“We have preliminary findings that lead us to believe we know who each of these individuals are; however, we have not, nor will be releasing any names until we have received confirmation from the Office of the Medical Examiner,” wrote Sergeant Andrew Hercules through a press release dated July 22.

Based on statements made from one of the victims, who was a juvenile female, her father is believed to have started the fire. Security cameras caught, who is believed to be her father, pacing outside the home before the explosion.

Before the incident, one of the now-identified individuals called his place of employment to notify for tardiness. He had also begun selling belongings a few days prior.

“Investigators found a gas can in the immediate vicinity of the father, and responders reported a strong odor of gasoline throughout the residence even after the fire was extinguished,” the press release read. “We believe that the explosion was caused by a buildup of fumes from an accelerant.”
