Mona Murahwa owns an eco-friendly, non-toxic product line cleaning service.

Murahwa was cleaning homes professionally, and enjoyed it. But she got to a point where she was feeling tired and imbalanced. She was constantly sick, and started looking at all the cleaning products and did research on them. She found many of the ingredients in the cleaners she was using cause long term sickness.

Murahwa decided, “why not look at natural cleaning products.”

West Jordan-based Murahwa has owned a professional cleaning business since 2022, then perfected the eco-friendly product in 2024. She started cleaning with the non-toxic solution, and would sell to her clients.

“The clients loved the product,” Murahwa said. She decided there was an opportunity, then she decided to make the formulation better and launched the product line Cleaning Mama in 2025.

Murahwa was raised in a very health-conscious home where her mother used a lot of essential oils. Her mother knew every single essential oil that would help with illness or skin disorders. When Murahwa became a mother she started thinking about her health and what she was bringing into her home. She was conscious of mindful cleaning. She wanted to create something that was an all-purpose cleaner.

“It’s not only about the fragrance, it's about how it does the job. Some of the harsh chemicals don’t do the job. Why would I compromise my health if it’s not even working,” Murahwa said. The ingredients that are used in her product do most of the cleaning in the house.

Murahwa did a lot of trial and error and would use different essential oils and a large amount, then decided she needed just a small drop. It helped her understand that essential oils are very powerful. They are natural so she didn’t need fragrance synthesized ingredients, and her oils disinfect.

Harsh chemicals have bad irritants in them. For example, ammonia is very bad for you. Murahwa said she would get headaches and sinus infections every time she used ammonia. "I love cleaning, how do I mitigate the two factors. That is why it was so important for me to come up with eco-friendly products,” Murahwa said.

What is important about her product is, natural fragrance, they create small batches that will help with quality control, because the batches are natural ingredients.

“People do not know this, natural ingredients have a shelf expiration time,” said Murahwa. After a year it is not good to use a product because it ends up with bacteria in it. Murahwa said her blueprint is to keep the product in small batches for now to ensure quality control. Her product is moving out fast. For Murahwa it is not about selling a lot of units, "it's about one customer coming back and saying ‘what a great cleaner.’” Murahwa feels like word of mouth is the best way to go rather than putting a lot of money in marketing material.

Wellness is important and to use the eco-friendly products she has created, it helps with keeping you healthy. With the air quality in Utah being bad it is important to use healthy products in your home. “Our homes should be a sanctuary for us,” said Murahwa.

Utah is where Cleaning Mama was born. She feels like the community in Utah is very supportive of her product. “Natural ingredients transform your home.”

In Murahwa’s family it is a legacy to be health conscious. Her mother was very health conscious and she was into natural herbs, and it helped her have a good quality of life. Murahwa says that using natural products helps with having better health. She wants her children to see her have a quality of life.

“If we can focus on quality of life, we will live happier, fulfilled lives. Family is quality of life,”  Murahwa said. All of her cleaning products are made in the USA, including bottles and packaging. If interested in learning more, go to www.cleaningmama.com
