If you’re a resident within the Salt Lake County area, you may have been noticing the slew of America250 notifications and events. America250 is a nationwide celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary (America's Semiquincentennial) of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

Utah municipalities, counties and Tribal Nations have been invited to join in commemorating and celebrating the anniversary. Here are some local America250 events: 

Riverton Town Days will begin on Thursday, July 2 at 7 p.m. with a patriotic concert and mini-golf. The full catalog of events (including the Riverton Parade at 6:30 p.m. on July 3) will run through 10:30 p.m. on July 4. To view the full schedule, visit www.RivertonUtah.gov/TownDays. 

West Jordan’s Western Stampede will also begin on July 2 at 4 p.m. with rodeo and vendor fair activities. July Fourth events will begin with a grand parade at 10:30 a.m. (Redwood Road) with fireworks at 10 p.m. (Veterans Memorial Park, 1985 W. 7800 South). Learn more at www.westernstampede.com.

On Friday, July 3 at 8:30 p.m., the Utah Symphony will be performing favorite classical works, Broadway sections, and American folk music, with a patriotic flair, at the Utah State Capitol (350 N. On Saturday, July 4, South Salt Lake’s Freedom Fest begins at 9:30 a.m. with a flag ceremony (3050 S. 500 East) with parade and celebration activities to follow. To learn more, visit South Salt Lake’s website www.sslc.gov/488/Freedom-Fest-Parade-and-Celebration.

On Saturday, July 5, multiple cities will be hosting events as part of America’s Potluck. Draper encourages residents to bring a picnic dinner to one of their community parks to celebrate the Potluck. They have already reserved pavilions in their city parks for residents to use for free.  

Millcreek will be providing games and tables at Millcreek Common (1354 E. Chambers Ave.) from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. for residents to bring and share their favorite dishes. Millcreek will also be waiving permit fees to close streets for residents to host their own potlucks or street parties. www.millcreekcommon.org.

Throughout the month of July, Herriman will be displaying artwork submitted from Herriman, Riverton, Bluffdale, West Jordan and South Jordan residents. Artists were invited to explore creative expressions of what America means today for a collective portrait. “The American Mosaic” will be on display at Herriman City Hall (5355 W. Main St.). As part of the Red, White & Bloom community recognition program, Cottonwood Heights residents are invited to nominate neighbors with aesthetically patriotic yards. The new Museum of Utah, an extension of the Utah Historical Society, opened on June 27 (450 N. State Street - North Capitol Building). The “Past is Personal” exhibit explores the nation’s history and community through the lens of remembering and perspective  The Museum of Utah is now open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and until 6 p.m. Fridays through Sundays. www.history.utah.gov/museum

South Jordan has partnered with cartoonist Tyson Cole to create the Special America250 Edition South Jordan coloring and activity book. Residents can download the activity book through the city’s website: www.sjc.utah.gov/1712/America250.
