Jaguar baseball enjoys deep playoff run

Senior Kekoa Wakely and the West Jordan baseball team finished the year 20-9, at one point embarking on a 17-game winning streak. After dropping seven of its first nine games to start the year, West Jordan captured a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Taylorsville to trigger the winning streak.
The West Jordan Jaguar baseball team celebrates a walk-off double in its first game of the Super Regional to beat Roy 4-3. West Jordan would go on to win the following day to clinch its spot in the quarterfinals of the 5A tournament, played at Utah Valley University. The Jags lost two close games in the double elimination bracket play to Pleasant Grove (3-0) and Fremont (11-8) to bow out of the tournament. It was redemption in a way for the group after the team was bounced in the Super Regional last year as the No. 3 seed.
Senior Austin Kesler, with his coach Travis Johnson looking on, would score the winning run in West Jordan’s 4-3 victory over Roy. Kesler, Bryn Gibson and Tyson Ashworth were the highest usage pitchers on the Jaguar pitching staff this year, all of whom finished with an earned run average under three.
