Utah Film Center: BATMAN

Utah Film Center is excited to announce our upcoming screening of Batman on Wednesday, July 6th at 7pm at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. The success of Tim Burton’s 1989 superhero classic helped lay the groundwork for countless superhero films (including The Dark Knight) in the following decades, and set the tone for more serious and dark themes within the genre. Please join us for the screening and stick around afterward for a post-film conversation about the importance of Batman moderated by KUER's RadioWest host Doug Fabrizio.

Presented as part of our Through the Lens series, which for 2022 features a collaboration with the University of Utah’s Department of Film and Media Arts to present an extended exploration of what many Film Lovers regard as the “Classic Films” in cinematic history. The post-film discussion will ask the question “Why is this film a classic and who is it a classic for?”

SYNOPSIS:  Tim Burton directs; Michael Keaton stars as Batman; and Jack Nicholson stars as his arch foe, The Joker. As the Dark Knight, defender of law and order in Gotham City, Batman treads the shadow zone between right and wrong, fighting with only his skill in martial arts and his keenly honed mind to defend the innocent and to purge the memory of his parents’ brutal murder–always keeping his true identity as millionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne a closely guarded secret. Based upon Batman characters created by Bob Kane and published by DC Comics, and featuring a soundtrack by Prince.

We’d love for you to join us and hope you’ll share this page with your community and allies so they can participate as well.
